Alex Russell
Head BJJ Coach | 2nd Degree Black Belt
Alex Russell is a passionate Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach and 2nd Degree Black Belt with deep roots in elite grappling. Alex began his BJJ journey in 2009 and has trained extensively with internationally recognised practitioners including Lachlan Giles, Kit Dale and Craig Jones. His unique experience training alongside world-class grapplers has helped him develop a strong technical foundation and advanced coaching approach.
Alex is particularly renowned for his expertise in leg-locking systems, helping students refine submissions, transitions, and strategic positioning. His coaching blends technical precision with practical application, empowering students to progress confidently through their BJJ journey.
Alex leads Imperium MMA’s core Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu programs, including adult gi and no-gi training and competition preparation.
Chris Ting
Head Kids Coach & BJJ Instructor | Brown Belt
Christopher Ting serves as Imperium MMA’s Head Kids Coach and BJJ Instructor. Chris brings lifelong martial arts experience to his coaching, beginning with Wing Chun Kung Fu — where he achieved his black sash at a young age — and later transitioning to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Chris has a strong passion for health, fitness and personal growth through martial arts. He teaches young students with enthusiasm, patience, and clarity, fostering both confidence and technical development in every class.
Christopher has experience in all aspects of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is a multiple state champion.
Whether coaching kids BJJ or adult BJJ sessions, Chris emphasises self-esteem, resilience, and community spirit.
Nikki Lloyd-Griffiths

Nikki Lloyd-Griffiths is a world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt whose competitive résumé places her among Oceania’s most accomplished athletes. She brings elite-level expertise and strategic insight to every class she teaches.

Coralie Barton
BJJ Instructor & Administration | Black Belt
Coralie Barton is a dedicated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt and integral member of our coaching and administration team. Coralie began her martial arts journey in Muay Thai kickboxing, competing at the amateur level before discovering BJJ in 2012. She quickly developed a reputation as a fierce competitor, earning multiple Victorian, National, and Pan Pacific titles during her progression.
Known for her resilience and tenacity on the mats, Coralie embodies the principle that technique overcomes strength. She is regularly seen outworking larger training partners and brings that same intensity and practical insight to her coaching.
Coralie contributes across BJJ programs and supports the club through key administrative leadership.
Ross Newland
Muay Thai Coach
Ross Newland is a seasoned Muay Thai kickboxing coach with over two decades of experience training fighters of all levels. Ross has coached at numerous fight gyms and brings deep technical knowledge and structured methodology to his classes.
Ross’s training sessions are dynamic, fast-paced and highly engaging, helping students build striking skills, conditioning and confidence — whether training for self-defence, fitness, or competition.
